What is KCFert
While on a very basic level KCFERT could be described as a fertiliser, the KCFERT
recommendations are quite different to the traditional fertilisers used extensively today.
The more accurate description of KCFERT Ascophyllom Nodosum Seaweed is that of a foliage feeder. The highly valuable properties of Ascophyllom Nodosum Seaweed are applied to the pasture, absorbed through the foliage and stored in the roots of the plant.
This means that the benefit of the application is immediate, there is no loss of value from elements disappearing into the soil, and there is no water-way pollutants from soil run off.
As there was no previously published evidence or information of the application of
seaweed, trace elements or liquid nitrogen on agricultural land, the company needed some way of accumulating data, so KCFERT’s grass monitoring cages were developed.
The first of these were cut in 1992, and very quickly the number of cages grew to around 120 per month. KCFERT still monitors around 95 cages a month, and the compilation of the data stemming from these cages continues to offer evidence that the KCFERT way is the right way forward.
